Role: Senior Health, Safety & Security Manager
Type: Contract (3 months+)
Salary: Circa £500 per day via umbrella.
Location: London
Hybrid: 3-4 days office/1-2 days home
Start: ASAP
This role is responsible for ensuring the clients health, safety, security management standards are met within development and delivery areas, by both the client and the supply chain. The role is also responsible for role modelling and embedding the 'Safe at heart' culture across development and delivery.

Role of Department

  • To set the strategic direction, policy and systems for the client in relation to Engineering and Integration, Environmental Management, Innovation, Quality and Assurance Health, Safety and Security
  • To provide assurance to the Executive and Board, lead major strategic projects and offer expert advice to the business.
  • To develop a 'Safe at heart' culture throughout the supply chain, driving the clients performance beyond current industry best practice.


The directorate is organised around six functional areas:

  • Chief Engineer
  • Integration
  • Quality & Assurance
  • Environmental Management and Town planning
  • Health, Safety and Security
  • Innovation
  • Directorate Business Management


Accountabilities

  • To be accountable for role modelling and embedding 'Safe at Heart' culture and ways of working throughout delivery.
  • To be responsible for supporting risk based Health, Safety and Security operational assurance within the development and delivery areas.
  • To be accountable for overseeing and ensuring compliance to centrally defined Safety and Assurance processes and policies across:
  • Occupational Health
  • Safety
  • Security
  • To be responsible for supporting the investigation of Health, Safety, Security incidents within delivery areas.
  • To be accountable for facilitating the provision of Health, Safety and Security services and advice to support development & delivery teams.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

Skills

  • Able to lead and work as part of a team.
  • Analysis Skills - can identify hidden problems utilising honest analysis and probing techniques.
  • Problem solving - uses rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions; probes all relevant sources for answers.
  • Planning and organising - Able to prioritise and manage own workload.
  • IT proficiency (eg Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to write technical reports including assurance and investigation reports and interface with staff across all levels of the project.


Knowledge

  • All aspects of health and safety, including occupational health, health and safety elements of the Works Information, security policies/procedures/processes.
  • Broad knowledge of range of assurance activities, tools, techniques and their application.


Type of Experience

  • Experience of delivering assurance across a major programme, or a complex organisation, with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in leading a multi-disciplinary Quality or Health & Safety team
  • Experience of leading complex and challenging investigations.
  • A professional qualification in Health and Safety or able to demonstrate the equivalent experience of a Chartered Member.
